Kia hosted a special press launch for its new fully electric SUV model, the EV9, at the Şerefiye Cistern, a venue that sheds light on the past with its 1,600-year history. During the event, Kia introduced its new model in the E-SUV segment, the EV9, while also sharing information about the brand's vision for the future.
Sharing insights on Kia's future vision, Kia Türkiye General Manager Can Ağyel said, “Since 2022, we have been bringing our electric vehicles launched globally to Türkiye. We previously began selling the EV6 and Niro EV, and this year we introduced our new flagship electric model, the EV9, to our country. Positioned in the E-segment, the EV9 stands out with its remarkable attributes in performance, design, and technology, and we believe it will break new ground in the electric SUV class. We chose this historical venue to introduce this special model, reflecting both our brand's experience and vision for the future.”
Emphasizing that electric cars will become a necessity rather than a preference globally, as well as in Türkiye, Ağyel stated, “The automotive sector has a significant responsibility in achieving carbon-neutral goals, and brands are making investments in this regard. Under our Plan S strategy announced in 2020, we plan to develop 14 electric models by 2030. The EV6 and Niro EV were the first cars of this strategy, and with the EV9, we continue to work in line with our strategy. Electric vehicles will play an increasingly larger role in our lives, which is evident when we look at the electric vehicle sales figures in our country. In 2022, electric vehicles made up about 1% of total passenger car sales in our country, and by 2023, this figure rose to approximately 7%. When we include hybrid vehicles, this rate almost reaches 20%. We are also making our investments in line with this strategy.”
Berk Erner: “You Can See the Fusion of Contrasts in Every Detail of the EV9”
Berk Erner, the designer of the Kia EV9 who came from the United States for the event, said, “Designing cars has been my dream. I have been working in this field for 10 years, and designing a vehicle like the Kia EV9 is a great source of pride for me. It’s also incredibly motivating to see the EV9, which debuted in the last quarter of last year, being well-received as I continue with future designs. You can see Kia’s design philosophy of ‘Opposites United’ in every detail of the EV9. I believe the EV9 will be very successful with its design, technology, performance, and features.”
